Every Summer has a Story
Our Every Summer Has a Story reading program provides economically disadvantaged children with a backpack filled with books. This allows them to keep reading through the summer months to retain, and enhance, valuable reading skills.
Every $25 raised provides one more child with a backpack filled with quality books to read during the summer.

We welcome contributions from publishers, distributors, and authors! If you have new or like-new books suitable for children and teens, your donation can make a lasting impact.
📦Host a Book Drive
Schools, businesses, and community groups can organize book drives to collect books for children in underserved communities. It’s a simple, fun way to make a big difference!
💰 Make a Monetary Donation
Every dollar helps us purchase books and expand our reach. Your generous donation allows us to put more books in the hands of eager young readers.

Last summer, we delivered over 26,000 books to kids across Massachusetts giving them access to engaging, age-appropriate books to build lifelong literacy skills. But it’s more than just books—it’s about opening doors. For many of these children, owning a book of their own is a rare gift, one that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and offers an escape into worlds they might never otherwise explore.
Research shows that access to books during the summer can prevent the "summer slide," where kids lose critical reading skills without practice. For underserved communities, this gap can widen over time, making it harder to keep up in school and beyond. By supporting Up With Books, you’re not just giving a book—you’re giving a child a chance to dream bigger, learn more, and see themselves as part of a larger story.
